Photo by Mae Mu on UnsplashHere we are in March and I’m finally writing about my word for this year. It actually isn’t a word. It’s the phrase, “Taste and See.” Most of us who follow the LORD are familiar with that phrase. It is often quoted from the scripture in Psalms 34:8. “Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good. Blessed is the man who trusts in HIM!”  At first glance, the verse seems pretty straight forward. But as I slow down and ponder the phrase in meditation, I asked the question, what does it mean to taste and see? The first word that comes to me after is savor. Just spend time with the LORD and in His Word. Just linger. Savor HIS presence.

A few years back, my husband and I took a trip to Moravian Falls, North Carolina. During our time there, In Moravian Falls, there is a special place called Prayer Mountain where a lot of people go to seek the LORD. He is with us everywhere but a lot of people have found this place at Prayer Mountain to be a place where there seems to be easier access to the throne of God. My husband and I went to the Mountain about 5 or 6 times during the two weekends we spent in the area. I had an experience with the LORD that cased me to really meditate on that phrase. The last time we went there, I was seated in the main prayer a reason the summit. As I gazed through the trees in front of the deck, I felt the Holy Spirit speak to my Spirit, “Taste and See.”

My thoughts on why the LORD gave me the first phrase for this year is that He want me to spend more one on one time with HIM, savoring HIS presence. Sort of like savoring HIM in my quiet time. He is like the honey mentioned in both Psalms 119:103 and Psalm 19:10. Honey tastes good and is good for you. It tastes sweet and seems to make everything better. The verse in Psalm 81:16 which says, “But I would feed you with the finest of the wheat, And with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.” As I reflect on these verses, I imagine myself sitting at a table with Jesus and HIM feeding me from HIS array of delectable delights. Things that might taste like bread and honey or even baklava which is loaded with honey. It will fully satisfy me as it says in that Psalm.

What a wonderful time the LORD is inviting me into this year. Oh, to sit with HIM and have HIM feed me from HIMSELF and HIS Word. How delightful!!

Have you ever chosen a word for your calendar year? What was your experience? if not, you might want to pray and ask the LORD if HE has one for you.
